Dear Friends and Prayer Partners,
As we approach the close of another year, we have much cause to raise our Ebenezer and say with Samuel, “Hitherto hath the LORD helped us” (1 Sam. 7.12).
It is with deep regret that we record the loss of two more of our veteran QMBC workers. Mrs Merle Stewart was called home to glory on 20th September, aged 98 years. She had worked at QMBC collating lessons up to a few years ago. She will be remembered for her kindness and hospitality. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family members. Then Gordon Rogers was called home to glory on 6th October after a short illness, aged 86 years. He along with his wife Joan worked together at QMBC for about fifteen years until November 2010, when Gordon was no longer able to come. They will be remembered for their consistency at QMBC, opening and reading mail, and helping every three months in the sending out of the Prayer News. Our thoughts and prayers are with Joan and the family members.
Our hearts go out to the people of Thailand with more than a million people displaced due to the extensive flooding, including Bangkok. Last Monday we received some packages of mail from some of our students there. The mail had obviously been dried and placed in plastic bags, but was mouldy on arrival. We need to pray for Thailand, and especially that our students’ lessons will not be lost in the floods.
Mail from our PNG students was erratic for a time, but we are glad to say that, although the volume is not so great, it is coming more regularly.
Our readers probably have heard of the recent tragic plane crash in PNG on 13th October. Sadly 28 passengers were killed; only four survived, including the two pilots. Most of the passengers were parents travelling to their children’s gaduation ceremony at the Divine Word University in Madang. The plane, a Dash 8, was flying from Lae, and went down just 20 km south of Madang. We currently have about ten students actively doing QMBC lessons, who are attending this university.
The extended Panorama lessons continue to be taken up by Australian, Papua-New-Guinean and Thai students. Currently there are fourteen of them, with another five Thai students likely to join their ranks soon.
Some of our workers have ongoing health problems. Marjorie’s cataract operations were successful. Thank you for your prayers.
We trust that all our prayer partners will enjoy a blessed Christmas, and in God’s will, enter the new year with renewed vigour and enthusiasm.
The completion of the extended Panorama lessons on Zechariah and Haggai.
The keenness of the female Australian students doing the extended Panorama lessons.
Martin’s enablement to write the lessons and the readiness of those who vet them.
The provision of workers to maintain the work of QMBC.
The success of Marjorie’s eye operations.
All the bereaved.
Thai people, especially our students in prisons.
Thai mail, that none will be lost.
Health of the QMBC workers.
Local deputation work to encourage more students.
I have learned from the “D” Course about “Who Are Our Enemies?”, “Jesus Christ our All in All”, “Jesus Christ our Life”, and “Jesus Christ our Coming King”. In these lessons I have learned about what it will be like before and after Christ's coming, and how I should be ready for him when he comes. So far, while studying these lessons, a great change has come over my life, and I have learned a lot about our Lord Jesus. The most important thing that I have learned is that he is coming soon.
I was born in a Christian background and when I was small my mother taught me about the Word of God. She always encouraged me to go to Sunday school. As a boy born in a Christian background, I just took things as normal. But as I grew older, my aunty introduced me to QMBC. By doing the lessons I became really interested. Just now reading through these lessons and studying “Salvation and Rewards”, a verse in it really inspired my heart, and this verse is: “For we (believers) must all appear before the judgement seat of Christ, that everyone may receive the things done in his body . . .” (2 Cor. 5.10). That makes me really want to please God in everything I do. And I really receive Christ as my Saviour right now, and I want him to live in my heart. Amen, in Jesus' name.
I am very pleased with the letter you have sent with the lesson asking me to become a prayer partner of your ministry. Yes, I am willing to become your prayer partner because a prayer can move the mighty hands of God, and can change the whole world. By reading your letter I was with tears because my heart always cries out for missions, and souls are dying without Jesus, and all the times when I pray, I always pray for souls because Jesus the King of kings died for them. So I am very happy to become your prayer partner and I am sending K10.00 as a donation to support your ministry.
I gave my life to Jesus Christ as my Saviour when I was in Grade 8 in the year 2007 during a crusade at my village, and went on very well. But when I came to high school, I became a boarder and was badly influenced by my peer friends, and so I backslid. I then recommitted my life last year, but up till now I feel I am still really struggling with my spiritual walk of life. But now being part of QMBC, just by reading the lessons, I feel refreshed and restored. Thank you so much, and I pray that God will bless you.
This year was a challenging year for me, falling into many temptations, but I asked the Lord Jesus to forgive me and change my behaviour. I now see many good things he has done for me, even changing some of my bad behaviour. I have a very important thing ahead of me, and that is my examination on 19th September. I just need your prayers so that I will not be afraid. May our Lord and Saviour continue to protect you all, and the ministry, and may he also continue to pour out his blessings upon you.
Greetings! May the blessing of the Lord be with you. Thank you for the Advanced Diploma. It was good to receive but it is only paper. The real value is what I learnt from the lessons, for the more we learn the stronger we grow. I will carry on and do all the lessons you send. I see I missed two questions in the last assignment. I do not know how this came about. If I was older I would put it down to old age, but as I am only 78, I cannot use that reason. I now double-check! For now, thanks for the study on Daniel; it is a good one to do. Till next lesson, God bless you.
[In answer to the question: “What three steps must Christians today take in order that they can be used in the service of God?”]
1. Come away from evil, and touch no unclean thing.
2. Present yourself to God as one approved – not being ashamed – and handle the word of God correctly.
3. Read God's word, obey, be earnest, and repent.
Thank you very much for the amazing things you have helped me learn. These assignments have been very helpful and interesting.
Thank you for your support and encouragement given me through the Bible Course. I hope I will receive my next course lesson within 90 days, unless I get released before. Here are two songs for you which I love so much.
1. “Give thanks with a grateful heart, give thanks to the Holy One . . .”
2. “Over the mountains and the sea your river runs with love for me.
And I will open up my heart and let the Healer set me free.
I'm happy to be in the truth and I will daily lift my hands,
For I will always sing of when your love came down,
I could sing of your love forever.”
I was called up to the office to receive some sad news. My nan had passed away. I'm not sure if she believed in the Lord Jesus Christ or not. She was 93. My brother Steven had informed me over the phone. I didn't want to go to the funeral because I would be under heavy guard and in hand-cuffs. But I prayed for her, and I think of all the wonderful times we had together. But the Lord had blessed me once again - I hadn't seen or heard from my brother Steven for years. We are now reconciled. He's married with three children and doing very well. My family have wanted to see me for a long time but I forgot about them because I thought I had brought so much shame upon them . . . I am nothing, but God willing, may I dwell in the house of the Lord forever. In Jesus' name. Amen.
[Jing helps others in prison struggling to understand our English lessons.] Before I help . . . to answer his assignments for you, I carefully explain to him the teaching in the Bible lessons. He is then able to use his Thai mother-tongue Holy Bible well.He is a leader here in B#6, and he also faithfully serves the Lord with me in weekly Saturday and Sunday meetings.
I completed all the lessons back in the early 80's.
Just today I found a letter from Beres [Northcott] acknowledging that I had completed all of the courses. I have since found out from your website that he passed away a few years ago, and his wife a few years before. What a great ministry QMBC was and still is.
As a child, I so looked forward to receiving each lesson in the mail and then I would promptly post it back. I probably drove my Mum silly with me trying to post them back as quickly as possible to get the next lesson! I even remember that I was sent a tape of Christmas songs.
Thank you for the opportunity that I had, and also that my daughter [Rebecca] can receive QMBC lessons. Thanking you, and may God continue to bless you and all the volunteers who give of their time to continue this ministry.
I would like to enrol my children Bryan Yeo (6 years old) and Isabelle Yeo (3½ years old) for QMBC Bible lessons.
I was also a student with QMBC, doing my first lessons about 25 years ago. My mother got to know about QMBC through her colleague and asked if I wanted to take it up. I think I was about 9 or 10 years old. I am very glad I enrolled and completed the course. Uncle Beres and Auntie Grace really helped me a lot along my road to baptism. I remember writing them many letters . . . and they answered every one of my questions and addressed every concern of an anxious child who learned only about Jesus through Catechism at school, yet was afraid to take the next step closer to Christ. I was finally baptised at 16 years old.
I felt sad to learn from the QMBC website that Uncle Beres and Auntie Grace have passed away, yet I know that Jesus will bless them abundantly in Heaven for the many good works they have done through QMBC . . . To my great joy God has kept it alive and running well. Thank you to all the brothers and sisters in Christ who have volunteered to continue Uncle Beres and Auntie Grace's good works. Keep it up and I will be keeping all of you in my prayers.
